These guides are made using C2 Carbide Blanks & Precision Surface Ground for a perfect match. With this being ground, it assures that the two surfaces to be in the same plane.

These file, (or grinding) guides are made from 4142 HT Alloy Steel, both with C2 Carbide screwed to one side of each bar. The 4142 HT Alloy is better suited for this application as it is more stable after machining.

The pins are hardened, also supplied are 2 ea. 1/4-20 socket cap screws and an Allen wrench.

The carbide is not affected by abrasives other than the diamond. Ceramic belts will scratch but should not be detrimental in the performance of this tool. Avoid over heating while grinding as this will cause the carbide to crack.

These guides can be used in the grinding the ricasso and choils areas. I have used them to line up handle scales as well.

They are a very handy tool and will make your knives look better.

I offer these steel guides in two different sizes, Regular and Xtra Large Swordmakers,

Guide details:
Regular size guide is 3 3/4" in length, 3/8" wide and 1/2" thick.
The carbide is 3/32" thick X 5/16" wide X 3" long and distance between the screws is 2 3/16"

The Xtra Large Swordmakers guide is 5” in length, 1/2” wide and 3/4” thick and the carbide is a full 5” in length! The distance between the screws is 3 1/2” and 2 3/4” which is an additional hole in case you would need a shorter use of the guide.
